Characteristics and responsibilities of LETBs
Currently, it is NHS London and the Deanery who provide the workforce portfolio of education and training in London. These activities will transfer to three LETBs in London: North West, North Central/North East and South London. This will take place through the pathfinder authorisation process to ensure that LETBs will be fit for purpose in time for HEE authorisation in April 2013.More information and direct links to the three London LETBs are on our webpage here.
The responsibilities of LETBs
LETBs will be responsible for strategic workforce development and lead the range of workforce functions currently undertaken by the SHAs and Deaneries. They will:- Bring together all healthcare and public health employers providing NHS funded services with education providers, professional bodies, local government and research centres to develop a strategy for the local health workforce that meets the needs of employers and responds to the plans of commissioners
- Aggregate workforce data and plans for the local health economy
- Ensure effective arrangements for quality and value for money, including Board running costs
- Provide robust and transparent funding accountability to HEE
- Commission education and training to deliver the local strategy and national priorities as set out in the Education Operating Framework
- Quality assurance of education and training programmes
- Work in partnership with education providers, clinical academics, local authorities, well being boards, universities, and those investing in research and innovation
- Support continuing professional education
- Ensure effective consultation takes place with key stakeholders
- Work with HEE to ensure delivery of national strategy and priorities.
